Chesterfield FC Academy is recruiting two volunteer sports science interns to join its multidisciplinary performance team for the upcoming season starting in August 2026.

The role requires a commitment of two days per week — either Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday — plus a rotating Saturday matchday commitment. The academy notes that flexibility is essential for the position.

What the role involves

Successful candidates will work alongside the Medical, Sport Science and Nutrition departments. Responsibilities include assisting with the design and delivery of gym-based strength and conditioning programmes, supporting pitch-based conditioning sessions, and helping with player load monitoring and management.

Interns will also help deliver pre-training and pre-match warm-ups, as well as post-session recovery and cool-downs. They will download, process and manage GPS data using the PlayerData platform and support the daily operations of the Medical, Sport Science and Nutrition departments where appropriate.

The volunteer role offers aspiring sport scientists valuable experience within a professional football academy environment, providing exposure to the day-to-day operations of an elite academy and its high-performance environment for academy players.

Interested candidates should contact Chesterfield FC Academy directly for full details of the essential criteria and how to apply.
