Chesterfield residents aged 40 and over are invited to a free Walking Sports Festival on Wednesday 19 August from 5pm to 8pm at Queen's Park and Queen's Park Sports Centre.

The event, organised by Chesterfield FC Community Trust in partnership with Chesterfield Borough Council, offers free taster sessions in walking football, walking cricket, walking netball, walking hockey and walking rugby.

What to expect

Drop-in sessions run from 5pm to 7pm, allowing participants to try different activities at a gentler pace in a social setting. A free BBQ follows at the Cricket Pavilion from 7pm to 8pm for those taking part.

Local organisations will have stalls at the event promoting activities and support available in the area.

Why walking sports?

Walking sports are designed to offer a fun, friendly and inclusive way for people to get active, meet others and discover local opportunities to stay healthy.

Jayne Bacon, Head of Community at Chesterfield FC Community Trust, said: "The Walking Sports Festival is all about making sport accessible, enjoyable and sociable. Whether people are returning to sport, trying it for the first time or simply looking for a new way to stay active, we hope they will come along and get involved."
