Chesterfield FC's assistant manager Danny Webb has previewed Tuesday night's fixture against Gillingham, the club's first midweek match of the season.
Reflecting on Saturday's defeat
Webb addressed the weekend's result, describing the late conceded goal as particularly difficult to take. He said: "When you concede a goal so late after thinking you're clawing your way back into it and getting a point, it's more of a sickening feeling than a normal defeat, although defeats are horrible to take."
He acknowledged the team's overall performance was not at the required standard. "The performance wasn't great by all accounts, so you have to sometimes accept that maybe you didn't deserve to win the game, but I think after we equalised there was maybe a feeling that we can go on and win it, where in hindsight the point would have been more than enough."
Webb noted the goal stemmed from a late error. "It's difficult, the goal was a bit of a slip at the end, it comes from nowhere but mistakes do happen."
Mandeville's penalty goal
Liam Mandeville opened his goal tally for the season with a penalty on Saturday. Webb praised the midfielder's contribution, saying: "Mandy was everywhere wasn't he, as he always is, and listen it's never through the lack of effort."
Looking ahead
With three games played, Webb expressed optimism about the midweek opportunity. "It's great that we've got a big game on Tuesday to get everyone smiling again."
