Chesterfield FC manager Paul Cook has outlined his ambitions for the 2026/27 season ahead of the club's opening fixture in the Carabao Cup against Fleetwood Town. Speaking to the press on Friday morning, Cook reflected on pre-season preparations and the summer transfer window as the Spireites prepare for competitive action.

Transfer Strategy and Squad Building

Cook explained the focus of Chesterfield's recruitment during the off-season. "We wanted to have a more athletic team, we want to look to run forward and play forward more," he said.

The manager confirmed that activity in the transfer market continues. "Things are still moving and there could be some more signings that come through the door as we continue to look and be open to signing one or two," Cook added.

Cup Tie Selection

When asked about squad rotation for the Fleetwood Town fixture, Cook made clear his intentions. "We will be picking the team we think can win the game, none of the jargon about pre-season minutes, we are here to win."

Cook stressed the importance of embedding new signings into match performance as Chesterfield travel to face Fleetwood Town in round one of the competition.
