Chesterfield FC lost 1-0 to Fleetwood Town at the SMH Group Stadium in their Sky Bet League Two opening fixture. Ched Evans scored in the first half to secure victory for the visitors.
The result marked a difficult start for Paul Cook's new-look Spireites side. It was the second consecutive defeat with the same scoreline and goalscorer — Evans also scored in last week's Carabao Cup loss to Fleetwood.
Five new signings in starting line-up
Cook named an unchanged team from the previous week's match. Five of Chesterfield's summer signings made their first League Two starts for the club.
Josh Koroma, one of the new recruits, showed early promise and proved to be a difficult opponent for Fleetwood's Raff Cirino in the opening minutes.
Chances at both ends
Evans had Fleetwood's first clear opening when his strike flashed wide from the edge of the six-yard box. Chesterfield responded with opportunities of their own, with Lewis Gordon, Dilan Markanday and Lee Bonis all unable to convert. Ruel Sotiriou also went close as the home side pressed for an equaliser.
