The Staveley Town Deal Board has agreed to reinvest £60,000 into town centre improvements after projects were delivered under budget. The decision, made at the Board's meeting on Friday 9 October, will fund enhancements to High Street and Church Street and improve connections to the Chesterfield Canal.

The additional funding builds on regeneration work already completed through Chesterfield Borough Council's Staveley 21 project, which transformed the market place with new paving, lighting, planting, a play space, and a pavilion building housing Staveley Library with business space upstairs. That project also provided grants for businesses to improve their shop fronts and included rejuvenation works along High Street.

Planned improvements

A detailed plan for the new funding will be developed in line with community expectations. Works are likely to include repairing street furniture, improving planting, fixing paving, and enhancing lighting along High Street and Church Street. The funding will also strengthen the connection between the town centre and the canal.

Ivan Fomin, Chair of the Staveley Town Deal Board, said: "Our most recent Town Deal survey, with the community, showed there was strong support for further investment in the town centre and by reallocating this funding which has come back into the programme we can deliver additional improvements, and achieve more of what the community wants to see."

Wider regeneration programme

The additional investment is part of Staveley's £25 million regeneration programme. Councillor Kate Sarvent, Chesterfield Borough Council's cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said the market place works have created an attractive space that encourages visitors and has provided space for events and activities. New businesses have opened since the works were completed.

Chesterfield Borough Council will work with Derbyshire County Council and Staveley Town Council to deliver the improvements. The council will share more details about the works on its social media pages.
