Chesterfield FC were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Gillingham in a League Two match that saw the Spireites denied all three points by a second-half equaliser.
Josh Koroma opened his League Two account for the season with the home side's goal. Kyle McFadzean played a ball over the top to the onrushing Markanday, who linked up closely with Liam Mandeville. Mandeville's delivery found Koroma, who slotted the ball into the bottom right corner past Oliver Wright in the Gillingham net.
Strong First-Half Display
Chesterfield made a positive start with strong linkup play between Koroma and Lewis Gordon. Gordon had the most notable chance in the early stages but dragged his shot wide.
Dilan Markanday was heavily involved throughout the first half. His quick feet in tight spaces allowed him to test Wright on multiple occasions. Mandeville also had a shot blocked as Chesterfield continued to surge forward in numbers, with another skilful run by Markanday forcing a strong save from the Gillingham goalkeeper.

Paul Cook's Chesterfield side were unchanged from their 2-1 defeat away at Rotherham. Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth made one change from their 1-1 draw against Northampton, with Lamin Sillah leading the line in place of Will Goodwin.
