Ringwood BMX Track is now open to riders following a major £150,000 refurbishment. The track, which has been in place for around 40 years, has received new signage, a start gate and surface work that improves the berms, rollers and tabletops.
Volunteers at Chesterfield BMX Racing Club oversaw the project and raised funds to deliver the improvements. Chesterfield Borough Council, which leases the land to the club, provided significant funding alongside grants from other sources including the Community Infrastructure Levy, the Mayor of the East Midlands, Robertsons - YorBuild Fund, Access Sport Facilities Renovation Project (funded by the London Marathon Foundation), Galliford Try and the Landfill Communities Fund.
Public Celebration and New Sessions
The club will host an open celebration on Sunday 26 July from 11am to 4pm. Members of the public can attend to learn about BMX racing, try the new track, and enjoy music, stalls and food.
Libby Hawkins, head coach at the club, said: "I'm so incredibly proud of our team that there are no words for it – this improved track is game changing for our community. I can't wait to start running our sessions here again – to see what it gives to young people in terms of confidence, friendship, life skills and breaking down barriers, which they haven't been able to access while cycling's not been here."
Wider Park Improvements Underway
The track refurbishment is part of a broader programme to improve Ringwood Park. An improved footpath now links both entrances to the park and improves access all year round. Additional natural seating has been installed to provide more space for visitors.
A new adventure trail is also being developed for families. These works are expected to be completed over the next 12 months.
